The Project
Khmer Kraft's website was designed and developed by a hard working group of Washington
State University, College of Business undergraduate students during the second half
of the 2009 Spring semester. These committed students devoted their time to this
site as part of a class project for their Management Information Systems 448 Project
Management class.

The Process
The project, worth 40% of the students' overall class grade, took about three months
to complete. The students participated in a variety of project management related
work that supplied them with real world exposure to how projects in a business environment
may be run. The entire project was run and operated by the students, with limited
guidance by the instructor of the course, Darin Ladd.
The project first took the students through the process of developing, submitting,
and selecting a bid. Students were split up into separate teams. All but one of
these teams was responsible for constructing individual bids. The other team, called
the Procurement Team from "CADES Consulting",
represented the interest of the client (Khmer Krafts) and were responsible for selecting
the winning bid. After each team submitted their bid, the
Procurement Team evaluated the bids based on the requirements and input
of the client, as well as, the quality and content of the bids themselves.

Cougar Crafts
After a winning bid was selected, the bid teams were consolidated into one massive
team affectionately named "Cougar Crafts". The
Procurement Team stayed on to receive, review, and approve predefined deliverables
from Cougar Crafts. Cougar Crafts was headed up by the
Management Team who, after reviewing each classmate's resume, assigned new
sub-teams and roles to each person based on their core competencies and preferences.
In addition to the Management and Procurement teams, these new sub-teams were as follows
(in alphabetical order):
Administrative Team
The Administration Team (above) was responsible
for communications, scheduling, status reports, and documentation for the duration
of the project. The team was responsible for compiling the entire group's work and
formatting it before submitting it to the client. They provided the means for communication
among all the teams, as well as, provided a report on the progress of the teams.
The administration team developed a general project schedule for the rest of the
team to follow.

Content Team
The Content Team (above) developed the marketing
tools that the site is using for advertising and passed these tools (if necessary)
on to the Development Team to be implemented
on the site. The Content Team also acted as a liaison with
Procurement Team and client to disseminate information regarding the site's
structure and content. Using this disseminated information, the Content Team provided
the requirements for the Development Team
on how the site should be structured, laid out, and the specific content included
in each page based on the client's requirements.

Documentation Team
The Documentation Team (above) developed
documentation for assisting the client with using and updating the site, the site
administration tools, demonstrating how to view and interpret reports, and what
elements of these reports may have to be translated for the Cambodian workers. They
were also responsible for developing the content of the Privacy page and the Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQ) page. To efficiently and effectively produce the
documentation for the site, the Documentation Team worked closely with the Content Team and Development
Team to gain understanding of the different aspects of the site. If
requested by another team and if the Documentation Team was available, the Documentation
Team assisted with the development of other forms of documentation and content for
the site.

for the delegation of work to everyone in the project. They oversaw the quality
of the project, as well as, ensured deliverables were submitted on time. They worked

Procurement Team
The Procurement Team (above) initiated
this project by creating the Request for Proposal (RFP) and Statement of Work (SOW)
per the requirements of the client. These two documents were then used by the individual
bid teams during the beginning of the project to create and submit their bids back
to the Procurement Team. The Procurement Team was responsible for answering questions
of the individual bid teams pertaining to the RPF and SOW during the bid development
process. Upon bid submission, the Procurement Team reviewed each individual bid
with the client and selected the winning bid. During the site development process,
the Procurement Team worked closely with the Management
Team to ensure that all deliverables submitted fulfilled all requirements
in the SOW and met the requirements set out by the winning bid. Any change requests
were submitted to the Procurement Team for review and approval.
